- What are Express Reviews?
Express Reviews are short reviews between 20 and 200 words. They are held to a different standard than Regular Reviews (over 200 words), and are meant to offer a brief summary of a product or service. Express Reviews are not expected to help consumers make a buying decision individually, but are useful in numbers for backing up what is said in Regular Reviews, or allowing reviewers to recommend or criticize a product without going into the detail usually demanded by the membership.
- Do Express Reviews earn money or have their visits tracked?
No. Several Express Reviews are shown in their entirety on one page because of their brevity; therefore, it is not possible for Epinions to track which reviews are read. Income Share is partially based on the number of visits to a review by shoppers, so it is not distributed to Express Reviews.
- How are Express Reviews rated?
Express Reviews are rated as either Show or Don't Show. The standards are very relaxed compared to Regular Reviews. Express Reviews that should be shown to consumers are defined by Epinions as on-topic and not in violation of the site rules, and should be rated Show. Reviews which contain profanity or are off-topic should not be shown to consumers, and are to be rated Don't Show.
Members can rate all the Express Reviews on one page by clicking the radio buttons, then hitting the Submit Ratings button at the bottom of the page; however, they must click through to the full review page to view other members' ratings and comments.
Members can choose to filter out the Express Reviews that they have rated by clicking a link found at the top right of the New Reviews In... page that toggles between "Show only reviews you haven't rated" and "Show all reviews". Clicking on "Show only reviews you haven't rated" will filter out any reviews that were shown on that page after you have rated those reviews. Clicking on "Show all reviews" will restore the default view of all reviews, both those you have rated and those you have not yet rated.
- Can an Express Review be converted into a Regular Review?
No. If an Express Review is updated and the word count exceeds 200 words, the update cannot be published. This is because the review would still carry existing Show or Don't Show ratings. In this situation, the Epinions community accepts deletion of the Express Review and publication of the update as a Regular Review.
- Where do I find Express Reviews?
Express Reviews can be accessed by clicking the tab that says Read New Express Reviews found at the top of the New Reviews In pages (commonly called the Just Ins). When looking at a product listing, Express Reviews always appear below the Regular Reviews.
- What are Surveys?
Some merchants allow Shopping.com to collect feedback directly from their customers after they have made a purchase. To do this, a survey is served to a customer immediately after they make a purchase. Shopping.com then contacts the customer a few weeks later, after they should have received the product they purchased. The customers' answers to these follow-up surveys are displayed as Surveys on the Shopping.com network. Surveys tend to be very brief, and the majority are positive.
